The former couple, who met on the sets of their 2008 release 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', dated for a year before they split amid claims that Ranbir cheated on Deepika.

However, the 25-year-old 'Love Aaj Kal' actress insists that the two are very good friends and talk to each other often.

"I am really excited about the film, it is going to be real fun. Working with such a brilliant actor like Ranbir, that too in a love story, that's the kind of film I always wanted to do. Moreover Ayan (director) is so young and talented and it was about time we did a film together.

"It is indeed great to be back with Ranbir in a film. Both of us were looking forward to a film that would justify our presence and 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' has turned out to be one such film," Deepika said.

'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is being directed by Ayaan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar. Its' Mukherjee's second film after Ranbir Kapoor-Konkona Sen Sharma starer 'Wake Up Sid'.

Deepika insists that the film is very different from her past projects and will bring out a different side to her.

"The film is special since it would be directed by Ayan Mukherjee. He is a mutual friend of Ranbir and myself. He pretty much knew that he had to do something special to bring us together on screen.

"I am ecstatic since this is going to be a true blue love story with an old school romance to it. I have never worked in a film like this before," said Deepika.
The actress, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 'Om Shanti Om', later went on to do films like 'Aarakshan', 'Karthik Calling Karthik, 'Break Ke Baad', 'Lafangey Parindey' and the latest 'Desi Boyz'.

Talking about Ranbir's achievements and success, she said, "I know how excited Ranbir was when he started off in the industry. He has put so much into his films and as a result his success means a lot to him. He is happy with the fact that his hard work has paid off."

Having done a bit of experimental films like 'Aarakshan' and 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se', Deepika doesn't feel that she should do only commercial films but wants to maintain a balance.

"Honestly, I don't like to segregate films as commercial, middle of the road, art house, new age. I don't wish to tell the audience either to leave their brains behind or bring them along. A film is a film after all. It's only in India where segregation around commercial and art takes place.

"At the end of the day I am an entertainer and I should be able to entertain the audience in all films that I do. I do understand that there are certain kind of films that are appreciated only by niche audience while there are others which appeal to a larger number. The idea is to mix and match," Deepika added.
