Cook Corner

Today, Sanjeev’s cooking techniques form a part of every Indian’s dining table and the journey started with his cookery show Khana Khazana.

He shares, “Cookery shows have always been popular. What is new is that television channels have just woken up to the potential of cookery shows and complete cookery channels.”

Sanjeev came up with the idea of a cookery channel seven years back, but critics dissuaded him.

But he went undeterred and approached a channel with the idea of a cookery channel, but they were reportedly not ready then. This chef, also known for his smile, went ahead nonetheless and launched his own cookery channel Food Food earlier this year.

Further talking about his stint with Masterchef Sanjeev says, “You will not believe it, but when the makers of Masterchef approached me to be a guest chef there, they thought I’ll refuse to come. They feared that having a cookery show and channel of my own, I might view it as competition.” He further adds, “When they saw me working earnestly towards making the episode a success, they were pleasantly surprised. I loved the experience.”

But we see talented contestants on Masterchef making mistakes while cooking and being evicted consequently. Does the whole experience remind him of any such slip-up he might have made?

“Of course. A long time back, I was hosting a live cooking show in a mall in Mumbai. I put a glass bowl on the gas and then started taking questions from the audience,” he shares and further mentions that he actually forgot about the bowl, and when he eventually came back to put cold water in it, it burst.

“It was hugely embarrassing. But when you cook at home, remember not to take any questions,” he says.

And, with Christmas round the corner, Sanjeev has some tips to give to foodies. According to this chef, it’s the season for happy food. “A comforting plate of piping hot gajar ka halwa with some other home-made delicacies are the ideal way to beat the chill this festive season,” he signs off.
