Anna dares Sonia for public debate

Anna Hazare works on an exercise cycle in his native village Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra on Thursday.AP

“Let her come on a public platform and try to convince people at large that the bill government has drafted is strong and would benefit common man who is tired of corruption that has seeped into every department,” Hazare told reporters at his Ralegan Siddi village.

Though the Gandhian had already met the press once late noon, he again met the media later in the evening to explain his position on the contentious Bill.

Waxing on his favourite theme-corruption- Hazare reiterated that it was the poorer sections of the society who bore  the brunt of corrupt officials. “It is precisely for this reason that we want lower bureaucracy to be brought under Lokpal but then look at them (govt) they are bringing it under Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

“Do you think the common man would be able to get justice when CVC is under government control? I firmly believe that lower bureacracy and CBI should be answerable only to Lokpal...then only it will have substance of value,” he said.

“What is the use of a bill wherein the Lokpal would not have a control over CBI and lower bureaucracy? I am going ahead with my three-day fast on 27th of this month and then launch ‘jail bharo’ agitation,” Hazare said adding that he would also participate in the ‘gherao’ agitation wherein plans are afoot to sit on dharna outside the residences of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
