To find last-minute rail seats, go to FB

Passengers looking for same-day reservation on trains originating from Delhi would have an option of checking the status of vacant berths online after the reservation chart is finalised.

“This is one of the several facilities we are providing to passengers. It will help people get the status of availability of berths online,” said Ashwani Lohani, Divisional Railway Manager.
So far, such an update was available only at the ‘current day reservation counter’ at the stations.

As of now, facebook page named ‘Delhi Division Northern Railway’, would have updates of vacant berths on trains originating from five major stations in the national capital — New Delhi Railway Station, Delhi, Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar and Sarai Rohilla railway stations.

The page already has the feature such as information on the latest arrival and departure of trains, along with the platform numbers for trains at New Delhi, Delhi and Nizamuddin stations.

Benefit for passengers

Railway officials working on the project say the facility would benefit passengers who are forced to plan their journey at the eleventh hour.

“Most of the time, such passengers board their train even without checking the status of vacant berths and end up being overcharged by the TTEs (Travelling Ticket Exeminers).
People now have the option of finding out about the vacant berths even from their homes. They can plan their journey accordingly,” said a railway official.

The official further said the page would be customised in a better way and separate clickable links would be provided for all the five stations within a week.

The number of people visiting facebook page of Delhi Division has been increasing, with around 100-150 unique visitors clicking on the page everyday.
