The height of happiness

The height of happiness

Two to tango

Groom Rizvan and bride HarunishaAt just over three feet, 27-year-old Rizvan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut town, about 425 kilometres from here, had lost all hopes of ever finding someone with whom he could spend his life in happy companionship.

His parents and relatives, who had been looking for a ‘suitable’ bride for Rizvan for the past several years with no success, too were in despair and about to give up. But, they had perhaps forgotten the old saying that ‘marriages are made in heaven’.

In the other corner of the same town, the family of 24-year-old Harunisha was also experiencing a similar problem. With the girl’s height of just about 2.6 feet, there were virtually no takers for Hurunisshan and her family members were also on the verge of giving up their search for a suitable groom for her.

With the two families agreeing on the alliance, Rizvan and Harunisha tied the nuptial knot at a glittering ceremony in the town a few days back in the presence of their family members, relatives and a large number of curious onlookers. When the bride and the groom arrived for nikah (Muslim marriage ceremony), carried by their relatives in their lap, those present at the venue showered flower petals and clapped enthusiastically, wishing the couple a happy married life.

“I had lost all hopes...my family had been looking for a bride for a long time...I am very happy that I have finally got someone with whom I can share my life,” Rizvan said. The bride, however, was not very forthcoming when asked about the dulhe mian (groom). “Achhey hain” (he is good) was all she could say after much prodding, but happiness of having found a suitable match was written all over her face.
