UP minister threatens Lokayukta

Last Updated 31 December 2011, 15:13 IST

Apparently perturbed by the indictment of a large number of his cabinet colleagues by the state Lokayukta and their subsequent sacking by Chief Minister Mayawati, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Power Ramveer Upadhya on Saturday publicly threatened the complainants and the ombudsman and warned them against “provoking” him.

“Agar main mantri nahin hota to dikhata ki main kaun hoon...aisa ilaj karta ki saat pushten yaad rakhatin” (had I not been been a minister, I would have shown them who I was...I would have got them treated in such a way that their seven generations would have remembered it), Upadhya said while addressing an election meeting in UP’s Hathras town, about 400 km from here.

The minister also targeted Lokayukta Justice (retd) N K Mehrotra and literally rebuked the latter for issuing him a notice without “investigating” complaints against him.

“I told the Lokayukta that I would meet him at his home and told him that I also knew the law....I told him that I would have got him removed by the Supreme Court had I not had personal relations with him”', Upadhya said warning the Lokayukta not to “provoke” him.

According to sources, the Election Commission has sought a report from the district magistrate of Hathras in this regard and decide about the future course of action there after.
