Thieves broke into a house in Banashankari II Stage and made away with valuables and cash, all worth Rs 28 lakh when the residents had been to Gulbarga on December 28.

The theft came to light when Ravindranath Gupta, his wife and daughter returned home on Friday and saw the door lock broken. They found Rs 50,000 in cash, jewellery and other valuables missing.

Ravindranath has lodged a complaint with Banashankari police station. Police Inspector Muralidhar said despite awareness campaigns, citizens continue to keep huge sums and valuables at home instead of keeping them in bank lockers.
