JOIN USThe State cabinet on Friday gave its nod to a long-pending demand of the Urs/Arasu community by including them under category 2A of the backward classes list.
The move would provide the community reservation in government education and employment. At present the community enjoys no reservation though it had the facility in 1977.
The Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, in its final report submitted in 2010, had recommended that the community be included under reservation list.
Approval for amendment to Land Revenue Act-1964 to provide claimants the rights over Jamma Bane land in Kodagu. The amendment bill has already been passed by the state legislature.
The Cabinet had not cleared the bill before it was introduced in the legislature.
