The passengers traveling on the Chennai-Howrah Coromondel Express had a miraculous escape on Friday morning after one compartment of the super fast express train caught fire at the Lingaraj passenger halt.

Though all the passengers escaped unhurt, the compartment was severely damaged in the fire.

The East Coast Railways authorities have ordered an inquiry into the mishap.

Official sources said, some passengers in the general compartment saw fire inside the bogie when the train was passing through the Lingaraj passenger halt.

They immediately pulled the chain and raised an alarm which prompted other passengers to come out of the compartment without any delay.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the East Coast Railways, R N Mohapatra said, “No passenger has been hurt in the incident. A divisional level inquiry has already been ordered,” adding that the train continued on to its destination after the damaged compartment was detached.
