Water expert G S Paramashivaiah has complained  that a few politicians and officials are conspiring to bury his report on permanent irrigation project.

At a press meet here on Saturday, he said “It appears that a few are unhappy over the recognition I would be given if the report is implemented. Hence, it is being campaigned that Yethinahole Project is better than my report by a few.”

He complained that “Many government officers, Union ministers and a few from the coastal region are indulging in it. The Central and State governments are giving more priority to Yethinahole project.”

According to him, Yethinahole project will only provide 8 tmc of water than 25 to 40 tmc as being claimed. It is not possible to provide such a quantity of water through the project, he said.  Besides, the report submitted by him will need 940 hectares of land to implement it. Of which only 200 acres of forest land and the rest is dry land. His project will not have any adverse bearing on the environment, he clarified.

“I have decided to apprise Ministers Veerappa Moily and Basavaraj Bommai of my report. I’m ready to explain the project with all the numbers,” he said.

Legislator K P Bachegowda decried misleading statements made by a few on the project. “This would create unnecessary fear among the people,” he added.

Shashwatha Niravati Horata Samiti co-ordinator R Anjaneya Reddy, Karnataka Milk Federation Director K V Nagaraj and others were present.
