Mother, daughter found dead in Rajouri Garden

Bore knife wounds, house ransacked, cash stolen

A 29-year-old woman and her eight-year-old daughter were found dead in their house in Rajouri Garden area of west Delhi on Saturday evening the police said. Both had knife wounds on their bodies, they added.

The deceased, identified as, Gurpreet Kaur, and her daughter Jasmine, were residents of  Manak Vihar Extension. The incident was reported to police at around 4 pm on Saturday by Gurpreet’s husband, Gurpreet Singh.

Gurpreet Singh, who runs a transport business in Mangolpuri, was not at home when the attack took place, while his two-year-old son was lucky to survive unhurt.

“Gurpreet Singh told us that his domestic help found his wife and daughter lying in a pool of blood. When our team reached the spot, we noticed deep cuts on their bodies and also found the house ransacked,” said V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (west).

The mother and daughter were declared brought dead at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. Gurpreet had deep knife wounds on her neck, stomach and chest, while Jasmine had wounds around her neck, police said.

They suspect it to be a case of robbery, as Rs 35,000 in cash and jewellery worth lakhs were reported to be missing from the house. “The robbers took away the items placed in three almirahs. They might have attacked the victims while trying to flee with the valuables,” Renganathan added.

The police are investigating other angles too, as there were no signs of forced entry into the house. “We believe that the culprits knew the family and therefore got a free entry into the house,” Renganathan said.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. A case is registered at the Rajouri Garden police station.Meanwhile, police have asked residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.

Earlier this week, the police had confirmed that robbery was the motive behind the murder of senior citizen Sarojini Bartwal in Mayur Vihar.

The 78-year-old, who used to live alone in her house in Pocket-4, Mayur Vihar Phase I, was found lying in a pool of blood by one of her domestic help.
