Rly attendant shot dead

One of the coach attendants of UP Himgiri Express was killed and another seriously injured when they were allegedly shot by two ticketless travellers in Burdwan district at wee hours on Saturday.

“The duo were shot inside the AC compartment at 2.30 am, minutes before the UP Himgiri Express reached Asansol station, apparently by the two ticketless passengers who had boarded the train from Howrah station late last night”,  Asansol Divisional Railway Manager Jagadananda Jha said.

Two contractual staffs engaged as coach attendants - Sagar Thakur and Ganesh Shaw while distributing food and water in the AC compartment found two people taking alcohol inside the compartment.

“On failing to show valid tickets, Thakur and Shaw tried to alert the on-duty security personnel. Suddenly, the duo took fire arms and shot at them before fleeing,” said railway police.
