Ever since the murder occurred on August 22, reports had pointed to the two hardcore criminals, Om prakash and Rajesh, who accompanied Paul that night. The duo had left the scene in a vehicle allegedly without bothering to take Paul to hospital. Besides being past activists of the DYFI, the CPM’s youth wing, both the “wanted” criminals are allegedly close to Balakrishnan’s son. The Youth Congress and Bharatiya Yuva Morcha have been accusing the Home department of facilitating their escape. Police have issued a lookout notice for these criminals who are prime witnesses to the murder believed to have been committed by another criminal gang.

Vijayan said the media and anti-CPM parties, which were raising allegations against the Home minister and the police, were barking up the wrong tree. “Paul kept bad company and he was accompanied by criminals that night. In 2007, he was jailed for two days in Faridabad in connection with a narcotics case. Why is nobody looking into these aspects,” Vijayan asked.

He alleged that the youth who stabbed Paul was an RSS man and the S-shaped dagger he used to commit the crime was a typical RSS weapon.

Replying to this allegation, Yuva Morcha state chief K Surendran said Vijayan was making an attempt to divert attention from his party and the Home minister who were involved in the case. The Congress has alleged that thugs were having a free run.
Plot thickens

Meanwhile, the investigation into the murder continues to raise questions with the family of Kari Satheesh, the youth who has owned up to stabbing Paul, alleging that he was being framed by vested interests. His mother said the cops planted the dagger in their house before bringing her son to recover the same.
