He denied the reports in a section of media that the central team did not visit the taluk on August 24, as part of its drought assessment tour.

The central team was not scheduled to visit Srinivaspur taluk. But, as per the Deputy Commissioner and legislator’s request, the central team did visit the taluk and collected all the information, the tahsildar added.

When the team met the legislator, Zilla Panchayat president, tahsildar and other officers at the Inspection Bungalow, complete details, including pictures on the drought situation in the taluk, have been given.

The central team also visited a few fields, which were not sown, and a few tanks near Laxmisagar village in Yaldur hobli.

Though the team could not go round the taluk due to time constraints, a complete picture has been given to the team, the tahsildar added.

Sowing yet to take off

The sowing activity is yet to take off in Srinivaspur taluk despite the recent rain.
Though the taluk received some rain recently, it has not helped the sowing activity much. In some parts of the taluk, where sowing activity has been completed, there is no signs of sprouting.

Almost all the rain-fed crops have been affected in Srinivaspur taluk. The groundnut crop, which was sown during the first rain, has started sprouting. However, there is no guarantee that the yield will be as per the expectations.

The farmers, who grow ragi, are opting for horsegram this year because it is already late for the sowing. The farmers are already prepared to the fact that the yield this year will be low compared to last year.
