A woman and her two daughters drowned in a tank at Chikkaballi in the taluk on Sunday.
Police said Prameela, 43, and her two daughters Ramya, 18, and Rashmi, 16, committed suicide due to abject poverty and illness of Rajanna, the husband of Prameela. Rajanna had been hospitalised in Bangalore.
The family, which stayed at Somasundarapalya in Bangalore, had come to its hometown to celebrate Sankranti on Saturday.
The police suspect the three jumped into the tank on Saturday night, but the incident came to light next day. However, details will be gathered only after post mortem, the police added.
