Brigade Road, M G Road and Commercial Street have been the favourite hubs of shoppers irrespective of where they live.

For shopaholics, these places offer a wide array of choices, from inexpensive items to branded ones. Despite shopping hubs coming up in Malleswaram, Jayanagar, Whitefield, Marathalli, Bannerghatta Road and other places, these streets still retain their charm.

Surya Ramachandran, a professional, shops on Brigade Road and Commercial Street. “I frequent these streets because of the variety of items they offer. You get everything here, right from handicrafts to branded clothes. And most of the stuff is affordable for all classes of people. Tibetan Plaza on Brigade Road is my favourite place and I shop a lot there,” she avers.

Lohit Sundaresh, another professional, says these roads have lots to offer. According to him, there is no better place to shop than Brigade Road. “If you are the kind who always buys branded stuff, the showrooms here tempt you to use your credit card.

You will also find a number of handicraft emporiums selling ethnic fabrics, antique jewellery, wooden toys and furniture. Apart from shops and boutiques, Brigade Road also houses malls and restaurants which are worth exploring. But parking is a major problem here, especially during weekends,” he says.

People flock to Commercial Street to get the best deals at the lowest prices. Needless to say, it is the favourite shopping destination of women and the young people as they get a
variety of clothes and dress materials here. “The best thing about Commercial Street is that here, you can get a dress stitched within two hours.

If you are a shopaholic, you have to visit this place. I shop for jewellery, made of semi-precious stones and beads, here. One should be wise enough to bargain, otherwise you will end up paying more than the actual price,” says Kavya, a degree student, who visits these places after her semester exams.

B S Prateek, an engineering student, feels M G Road and Brigade Road still have the charm to attract huge crowd on weekends and special occasions. “When you think of Bangalore, it’s M G Road and Brigade Road that come to your mind first.

They have a very special charm and are glamourous. However, with the mushrooming of malls and restaurants pretty much in every area, none of my friends or I travel regularly to these places to shop or dine. We, however, visit these places on special occasions like New Year’s eve,” he says.
