JOIN USDelhi Police have busted a gang involved in theft of mobile phones and laptops in buses.
They
have recovered 287 mobile phones and 12 laptops from the possession of the three accused men.
The arrested have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, 44, of Paschim Puri, Narayan Singh Negi, 48, of Paschim Puri, and Noor Mohammad, 28, of Madi Pur village.
“The action was taken over a complaint by Chinmaya Dash, a resident of DIZ Area in Baba Kharak Singh Marg, on January 7 at the Defence Colony Police Station,” said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south).
Chinmaya had told police that he had boarded a bus from AIIMS to Noida, when the bus reached Defence Colony bus stand, he noticed that his laptop was stolen from his bag by a person travelling in the bus. During the course of investigation, police received information on Monday that some thieves with huge quantity of stolen laptops and mobile phones would assemble at Defence Colony market.
“Immediately, a team swung into action and traps were laid. At around 3 p.m., three persons with huge bags were noticed sitting in corner of the park in a suspicious manner. When they saw the police they tried to flee, but were caught,” Sharma said. When searched, 12 laptops, including the complainant’s laptop, and 287 mobile phones of different makes were recovered from their bags.
The accused told police that they were active members of ‘Raju Gang’ and were involved in various incidents of laptop and mobile phone thefts from buses.
“Rajesh Kumar alias Raju Bhai is the kingpin of the gang. They board buses and take advantage of the crowd, and steal laptops from bags,” Sharma said.
They are also skilled in stealing mobile phones from passengers’ pockets. “It was disclosed that they shared the loot in the ratio of 40:30:30. Forty per cent of the share went to Rajesh,” Sharma added.
