The action is a part of the drive initiated by the traffic police to fine people at the six identified accident-prone intersections-- ITO, ISBT, Anand Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Africa Avenue and Maharani Bagh.

“A total of 239 people were fined for not using the foot overbridge and subways on the first day of the drive,” said Satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

As per the drive, which is aimed at reducing pedestrian road deaths, a jaywalker was fined Rs 50 given the Rules of Road Regulation. For the first time, the drive was initiated in 2007, but was later withdrawn in 2009.
