Renovated stadia to reopen in June

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Shekhar said a new synthetic track and warm-up track has been laid at Kanteerava Stadium at a cost of Rs four crore, while the upgradation of the hockey stadium will cost the government around Rs two crore. The Kanteerava Indoor Stadium will be air-conditioned at a cost of Rs five crore. The minister said once the stadia are ready, the State government will host a series of sports events.
Replying to a query, he said the State government was planning to restart the flying school at Jakkur soon. A separate complex with a flight simulator facility was in the final stages of completion.

The state government will distribute 20 sports bicycles to sportspersons from North Karnataka at a simple function to be held in Bangalore on May 18, he said.

Shekhar, who also holds the textiles portfolio, said the State government has convened a meeting with representatives of the textile sector on May 18 in Bangalore to discuss various aspects of recession and chalk out the future step of action.

The government will continue to provide training in handloom, powerloom, sewing, weaving in a bid to value add interested candidates employability in the garment sector, he said.
