Last Updated 21 January 2012, 18:46 IST

The Central University of Karnataka (CUK) will schedule its entrance examination for postgraduate courses to coincide with the announcement of results for undergraduate course of State varsities from 2012-13.

The move will help students from the State to opt for postgraduate programmes of CUK.
Announcing this to mediapersons here on Saturday, CUK Vice Chancellor A M Pathan said hitherto the CUK conducted its entrance test for its postgraduate courses in May coinciding with other Central universities.

However, this posed a hurdle to students studying in the State universities that declared results of undergraduate courses in June.

“From the forthcoming year, CUK will conduct entrance examination in June-July to facilitate State students to opt for postgraduate exams in our university,” said Pathan.

The CUK is also planning to start courses in MSc (Physics) and MCA from the next academic year, he said.

The varsity is starting a postgraduate course in science for the first time, since its inception three years ago.

New campus soon

It was decided to start MSc (Physics), as it calls for minimum laboratory facilities that can be provided by the newly-formed varsity. Other courses in science will be started in the due course after the university is shifted to its own campus sometime in April this year, added Pathan.

Replying to a query Pathan said shortly a director cum professor will be appointed for the Centre for  Studies in Classical Kannada.

Proposals for setting up a Centre for Studies and Research in Sharana, Sufi, and Haridasa literature and a Centre for Studies in Ambedkar Philosophy are likely to be approved by the UGC, said the CUK Vice Chancellor.
