Tampering of meters attracts fine

Last Updated 21 January 2012, 20:02 IST

We have seven field officers who conduct raids on autos once a week. We verify the accuracy of auto meters with the help of a portable kit. Meters are given a licence for 12 months.

Auto drivers found using meters without renewing validity will have to pay a fine of Rs 500. Faulty meters, usually due to wear and tear and aggressive usage, attract a penalty of Rs 2,000. But a case will be booked in case of tampering of meters since it is a grave offence to be dealt with by a court of law. Commuters can always enquire with the auto drivers whether their meter licences are valid.

All the recognised taxi services such as KSTDC, Meru Cabs, Easy Cabs are also checked by our department. People can always complain to us about autos and cabs, by sending a mail to clm@kslmd.com. or call 080-2225 3500.
