Encouraging law students to maintain the nobleness of their profession, a Supreme Court judge on Sunday said lawyers must work with the objective of getting justice for society.

While addressing the 8th K K Luthra Moot Court competition, Justice T S Thakur said legal practice is a noble profession and lawyers should give their best service.

This should be irrespective of the amount of fee the litigant pays.

“A lawyer does not work for only bread and butter but for a rule of law and for getting justice for society. A lawyer is judged by the judge in court in his or her presentation and advocacy skills,” said Justice Thakur.

“It is important to know how a lawyer shapes an arguments before the court for getting justice for the client,” added Justice Thakur, who was the chief guest at the event.

He said the relationship of a lawyer with a client must be good.

Recalling his experience, Justice Thakur said the result of a case will be memorable if one gets justice to the client and not by the amount of fees offered one got.

The exclusive criminal moot court, which is held every year since 2005 in memory of renowned lawyer K K Luthra, was organised by the Campus Law Centre of the Faculty of Law, Delhi University.

This year, the moot court was won by National Law University, Dwarka, while ILS, Pune, stood second. At least 62 teams from India and abroad participated.

The prizes for best speaker and second-best speaker were bagged by students of last year’s winners, George Washington University Law School, US.
