Blood collection unit at dist hospital in Chikkaballapur

Establishment of blood bank hampered for want of building

The establishment of a full-fledged blood bank is hampered owing to non-availability of a building and the unit is being set up as a temporary and alternative measure.

The doctors were compelled to refer the patients to hospitals at Bangalore owing to non-availability of blood at the District Hospital.

People injured in accidents and pregnant women requiring operation had to be shifted to other facilities for want of blood. There are instances of few patients losing life while being shifted.

Long-felt need

The district hospital in the City, abutting National Highway-7 was in bad need of such a facility. Establishment of a collection unit at the hospital will now minimise such casualties.

An air-conditioned room to collect and store 50 units of blood and a laboratory for blood test are already set up. Necessary sanction has been obtained from the State Drugs Control Department.

Arrangements have been made to ensure supply of required quantity of blood from SNR Hospital in Kolar. Dr Diwakar has shouldered the responsibility of the collection unit and lab technician Samiulla will oversee the laboratory. District surgeon will be in charge of the entire arrangement of the blood collection unit.

The government has given directions to establish blood collection units at all the hospitals in taluk centres also. The measure will go a long way in providing emergency medical care in rural parts.

Establishment of a blood collection unit at the district hospital in Chikkaballapur has fulfiled the long pending dream of the City residents.
