Last Updated 23 January 2012, 18:29 IST

Former minister H K Patil said Congress would finalise the candidate for upcoming Udupi-Chikamagalur Lok Sabha bypoll in a couple of days.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Suttur Jathra on Monday, he said the opinion of local leaders and party activists has been collected.

Aspirants

There are more than four aspirants including Jayaprakash Hegde, Vinaykumar Sorake, D K Taradevi and B L Shankar for the bypoll. A report on the opinions of the party activists has been submitted to the party state president.

The high-command will make the final choice, he said. “Congress is like a big family. There are no factions in our party and none of the leaders will join NCP.  The difference of opinion within the party has been sorted out after a discussion with KPCC president. Everybody will work together for the party in the Udupi-Chikamagalur bypolls,” he added.
