The taluk administration has decked up the municipal grounds in Robertsonpet for the “Kannada Nudi Teru” organised in the City on Tuesday.

Kannada and Culture Minister Govind Karjol will inaugurate the event at 10 am. A procession comprising troupes representing the cultural heritage of the State will begin from Venkataramanaswamy temple and reach the venue after passing through prominent roads. Three ‘teru’ (chariots) will reach BEML Nagar by this time and the programme will formally begin after the processions reach the grounds.

Tahsildar S M Mangala, Kannada Development Authority co-ordinatory Mallikarjunaiah, City Municipal Council president Dayanand, Municipal Commissioner Balachandra and office-bearers of Kannada Sangha inspected the preparations for the event on Monday. Seating arrangement has been made to accommodate as many as 5,000 people on the ground, tahsildar Mangala said.

Mallikarjunaiah, the co-ordinator of Kannada Development Authority said events such as ‘Kannada Teru’ foster linguistic harmony in border areas. He said people speaking various languages reside in KGF and mutual love and affection among such people facilitates a cordial environment. He said the Authority has released Rs five lakh for construction of a Kannada Bhavana in KGF.

Shekharappa, the president of Kannada Sangha was all the praise for the chairperson of Kannada Development Authority. He said the ‘Teru’ was a long-pending demand of the Sangha and the event would go a long way in promoting Kannada.

Kalairasan, the president of Tamil Sangha had a more broader perspective. He said Kannada is one of the Dravidian languages. “Though we are Tamilians, we share a common root. We are earning our livelihood in Karnataka and our loyalty will always be for the land of Kannada,” he said.

He said the government should hold a Cabinet meeting in KGF too as done in Belagaum. The State government has won the confidence of Tamilians by installing a statue of poet-saint Thiruvalluvar. “We extend a warm welcome to Nudi Teru,” he added.
