JOIN USMan who raped Manipuri girl held
A 30-year-old sales executive was arrested on Monday for raping a Manipuri girl after giving her a lift, police said.
On Wednesday night, Anuj Sani drove the victim in the car he had received as a gift on his marriage, and raped her in an isolated place in sector-23 of Dwarka in south-west Delhi.
He was arrested near his house at New Palam Vihar at Gurgaon in Haryana, said Additional Commissioner of Police (south west) Anil Kumar Ojha.
Saini had a love marriage and is father of a one-year-old girl. He graduated from Delhi University’s Zakir Hussain College and is working with Sriram Capital in Gurgaon’s Sushant Lok as a sales executive.
“Saini was planning to leave Delhi and settle elsewhere to evade police. He had come home with the intention to collect some clothes and other essential items and then to flee from Delhi. We have recovered a Hyundai Santro car and his mobile phone from him,” said Ojha.
Narrating the sequence of events, Ojha said, “The victim is a resident of Mahipalpur and works at a spa in a mall in Gurgaon. She had hired a rickshaw to reach IFFCO Chowk after finishing her work on Wednesday evening.
“While she was waiting for a taxi, Saini stopped his Santro car near her. It was around 9 pm. As it was very cold, she asked for a lift. Saini agreed readily and got her inside the car.”
Saini told police that to win her confidence, he politely accepted her request and picked up a casual conversation with her.
But instead of taking the NH-8 route, he took Old Gurgaon Road. Familiar with the locality, he took the by-lanes to reach Bamnoli village at sector-23 of Dwarka.
When the girl grew suspicious, she first politely protested. Realising that Saini had wrong intentions, she started to shout and scream.
She even tried to make a call to a relative. Saini snatched her mobile phone, played the music system at high volume and locked the car doors through the central locking system, Ojha said.
After reaching at an isolated place in Bamnoli village, he allegedly raped her.
Fled from crime scene
He then fled leaving her in the bushes. Seeing her weeping and injured, another taxi driver took the victim at Samalkha Chowk from where she informed police and her family members.
A medical test conducted on her confirmed rape and a case was registered at Dwarka Sector-23 police station.
On Sunday afternoon, Saini called his wife and said that he was in Kanpur and would come home soon.
When Saini reached near his home at around 1 am, police nabbed him.
