University gets weather radar

Punjabi University became the advanced centre of weather forecasting with the inauguration of Doppler Weather Radar on its campus on Tuesday.

The new system, installed by India meteorological department, will generate data which will be useful to study and forecast flash floods, river catchment inflows, thunder storms and rainfall occurrence.

It will also generate aerodrome warnings and route forecast for flights operating in the region.
Vice Chancellor Jaspal Singh said the centre will help the science departments of the university by supplying data useful for research activities.
