A fight against corruption

Producer Nitin Manmohan along with director Rumy Jafry and actors Akshaye Khanna, Shriya Saran, Mugdha Godse and Anu Kapoor screened his upcoming film Gali Gali
Chor Hai, releasing on February 3, for Anna Hazare and 2000 other villagers at the latter’s village — Ralegaon Siddhi.

The film was screened on a specially created LED wall screen in an open auditorium  for Anna Hazare and his villagers. Anna greeted and welcomed the cast of the film and praised them for their effort.
Though being unwell, he watched the whole film and even said he loved it and that every Indian must watch this film. “It supports my message and movement. Every youth, every child, in fact people of all ages in India should watch this film as it showcases the depth of being a common man and motivates every Indiviual to be a good citizen and have a corruption-free country. This Republic Day, every Indian should be corruption-free from within first and then work towards fighting corruption,” said Anna.

Nitin Manmohan said this was the best premiere he could ever imagine for his film.
“I experienced the audience watching, laughing, smiling, crying along with my film. I was thrilled to see Anna’s reactions watching my film. 2000 villagers stood up and clapped — that was my reward,” he said.

“I was sitting next to Anna and every gesture and expression of his made me happy. It was a proud feeling,” said Rumy Jafry.

‘We shouldn’t copy older generation’

Actor Shahid Kapoor, last seen in the romantic drama Mausam, is looking forward to doing an out-and-out masala entertainer.

However, he believes film-makers need to find their own new ways of entertaining the audience rather than trying to copy the older generation.

“The newer generation should not try and ape anybody else. I don’t think that’s a formula for success. That’s what I feel for our generation,” the 30-year-old actor said at an event.
“I think it’s important to find your own space. We have to discover how is our generation going to provide masala entertainment and that is on the agenda. Hopefully we will find solutions to it,” he added.

Shahid will be seen in Kunal Kohli’s next, which is said to be tentatively titled Teri Meri Kahaani.
He will feature in the film with Priyanka Chopra.

Besides Kohli’s film, for which Shahid wrapped up shoot on January 8 in Aurangabad, the actor admits to being currently “unemployed”.

Puppy love

Actress and animal-lover Raveena Tandon has added to her five pets by adopting a street puppy. “Brought a rescued puppy home last night, unbelievable how much joy a little puppy brings into a household, he joins our family,” the 37-year-old posted on Twitter. Raveena, who is married to film distributor Anil Thadani, says her daughters have already decided the name of the new pet. “He joins our family of 5 (pets), and my daughters have named him Cuddles Thadani (sic),” she added.

Set to sweep the Oscars

Alexander Payne’s Golden Globe-winning comedy drama ‘The Descendants’ has continued its splendid run at the awards ceremony by bagging five Oscar nominations.

Starring Hollywood hottie George Clooney, who has bagged almost all the best actor awards till date for the film, ‘The Descendants’ has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Film Editing and Writing (Adapted Screenplay) for the Oscars, which will be held on February 26.
Released across Indian theatres on Republic Day, ‘The Descendants’ is directed by Alexander Payne of the Oscar-winning ‘Sideways’ fame and stars George Clooney as Matt King, a privileged Honolulu attorney from a landowning family who is compelled to reevaluate his marriage and life, while his wife lies comatose in a hospital bed following a boating accident.

Opening to glowing reviews and extensively lauded by trade circles and fans in Hollywood, ‘The Descendants’ sees Clooney deliver a masterful performance that critics are calling his most vulnerable and nuanced so far, which in all likeliness will give him an Oscar nod.
