Making a brief foray into acting

Guest appearance

Ace choreographer Shiamak Davar will soon make his acting debut in Kannada film industry.

He will not only choreograph but will also play a special role in the Kannada movie Prasad. In a candid tete-a-tete with Metrolife, Shiamak reveals that it was by chance that he signed this film.

“I was earlier supposed to make my debut in South Indian films in Shankar’s Endhiran and even Mani Ratnam wanted me to act but somehow things didn’t work out.

When I heard the story of Prasad, I immediately knew that I had to be a part of this movie,” says Shiamak. This movie which revolves around a dumb and deaf boy also has children from Shiamak’s organisation, that uses dance as a medium to reach out to children with special needs and those diagnosed HIV positive. “I really connected with the story and felt that it would be a great way to start in the southern film industry,” he adds.

Playing the role of a choreographer in the film, Shiamak was rather shocked to see his face on the poster of the movie. “It’s just a small appearance, I didn’t expect to make it to the posters,” he laughs, while adding, “but this movie is as special as Dil To Pagal Hai to me.”

Talking about his Mission Impossible 4 experience and meeting Tom Cruise during his India visit, Shiamak says that he found a good friend in Tom. “The movie was a great platform for me and Tom is a wonderful person and an actor.

When he and his sister Paula visited India, we had a great time and they were amazed to see the Taj Mahal,” he adds. So does it mean that one will get to see more of Shiamak in Hollywood?

“You never know. I have got many offers and talks are still going on about my next Hollywood project, but it’s too soon to say anything about it right now,” he adds.
It has been over two decades since Shiamak embarked on his journey of dance and he still feels he has a long way to go. “Dance has always been special to me. Each day I get to learn so much,” he explains.
