SSP, Jeev disappoint

The Indian duo of SSP Chowrasia and Jeev Milkha Singh had a disappointing start at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championships as they carded 74 and 75 respectively on the opening day of the Middle East swing on the European Tour on Thursday.

Chowrasia is 73rd and he and Jeev at 91st will need a good second round performance to make the cut.

Rory McIlroy out-shone playing partners Tiger Woods and Luke Donald with a five-under 67. McIlroy took a share of the lead with Swede Robert Karlsson.

Gangjee in lead
Rahil Gangjee raised hopes of another Indian win at the second edition of the Gujarat Kensville Challenge as he turned in an impressive four-under 68 on the opening day to emerge as the sole leader in the European Challenge Tour event in Ahmedabad.

Defending champion Gaganjeet Bhullar was three shots behind at tied 12th place after a round of 71.
