'Kemmannugundi to be tourist hotspot by Feb'

Massive tourism development plans on card for district

The state government is concentrating on the over-all development of the district. Approval has been given for various developmental programmes and funds have been released said District in-charge Minister S Suresh Kumar after unfurling the Indian flag at the Republic Day celebrations held at the District Sports Ground on Thursday.

“Kemmannugundi has been developed as a model hill station. The work will be completed by February. Approval has been given to release fund of Rs 49.5 crore to develop Bababudan Giri, Kemmannugundi and related tourist spots, he said.

About 128 acres of land has to be acquired for the Kadur-Chikmagalur railway project. Around 67 acres has already been handed over to the railway department. The remaining land will be handed over by March end. To revive the arecanut fields which are hit by yellow leaf disease Rs 251.25 lakhs has been released under the National Horticulture Mission and Rs 110.75 lakhs has been released by the State. As many as 5,842 applications of arecanut growers have been received and steps are being taken to help them, he said.

An approval has been received to start work to solve the problems of drought-prone Kadur Taluk.

For this, Rs 220 lakhs has been released to solve the drinking water problems and silt removal in lakes. There are plans to revive the 239 lakes in the district. Under the Comprehensive water-shed management plan third phase 25,590 hectares of land will be used and Rs 35.41 crores has been allotted for this.

Vocational training will be given to youth in villages and steps will be taken to maintain hygiene in villages by implementing the ‘Suvarna Gramodhaya Yojana’ in all Gram Panchayats. This work will be taken up in phases. In the first phase Rs 22.73 crores will be spent for 20 villages.Attractive drill, march past was held as a part of the celebration. The state level winners of cycle competition were awarded.
