Sasikala's relative arrested on serious charges

A relative of Sasikala, estranged aide of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, was arrested here today on charges of abduction for ransom, extortion and criminal conspiracy, police said.

Ravanan's arrest followed a complaint by one Ravikumar, a contractor at Sirumugai in the district, that he was abducted by him on October nine last year and rs.10 lakh was sought as ransom for his release and to continue his business, police said.

He alleged that he was forcibly taken in a car by Ravanan's aide, Mohan, and some henchmen to a godown in Tiruchirapalli and threatened of dire consequences if he failed to pay the money or complained to police. As he was kept in captivity in a oil godown, his friend delivered the money, Ravikumar said in his complaint.

A case was registered under various sections IPC sections, police said, adding, Mohan was also arrested. Meanwhile, a BJP city office bearer, K R Radhakrishnan has filed a complaint with the Anti-land grabbing cell that Ravanan had grabbed land worth rs five crore in the district, police said.
