Couple commits suicide over an affair

A couple committed suicide by hanging themselves at their home in Vishnu Garden in west Delhi after an argument over an extra-marital affair, police said on Friday.

Ravi Pandey, 30, who worked as an air-conditioner mechanic, and his wife Shalini, 28, had been fighting over Ravi’s alleged affair with a woman named Rupinder, said additional commissioner of police (west) V Renganathan.

Fed up with the ordeal, Shalini committed suicide on Thursday evening.

Later when Ravi found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan, he also committed suicide.

“We received a call at around 9.30 pm on Thursday that the husband and wife had committed suicide. We immediately rushed to the spot and took them to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Hari Nagar, where they were declared brought dead,” a senior police officer said.

Ravi’s mother, Shobha Devi, told police that Ravi and Shalini, who were married for the past 15 years, had a heated argument on Thursday morning after Rupinder called him on his phone. She lives in Shyam Nagar with her husband Manjeet Singh and three kids.

“Shalini had snatched the mobile phone from Ravi and accused Rupinder of ruining her marriage and life. Later the couple argued over this, after which Ravi left home for work,” Shobha Devi said. She also claimed that Ravi had an affair with Rupinder for the past 10 years.

The couple is survived by daughter Tamanna, 11, and sons Chetan, 7, and Rudra, 4. Police is investigating the matter and say that the exact reason behind the extreme step has not been ascertained yet.

“The post-mortem report are awaited to find out the their exact cause of death as no suicide note was recovered,” Renganathan said.

Woman commits suicide

At Aman Vihar area in outer Delhi, a 40-year-old woman committed suicide, police said. Vimla, whose husband, Durgan Singh, works in an export factory, was found hanging by the family members at 8:40 pm on Thursday night. Vimla left a suicide note saying that nobody was responsible for her suicide.  

Grieved over wife’s death man ends life

A 28-year-old man took his life by consuming poison in west Delhi, police said on Friday. Satya Narayan committed suicide hours after hearing about his wife’s death.
The incident took place near Sri Ram Park of Nihal Vihar. Police received a call that a 26-year-old woman identified as Madhu consumed poison at her house on Thursday evening.

“We rushed her to nearby hospital where she was declared dead,” said a senior police officer.

Hearing the news of his wife's death, Satya Narayan too consumed poison. He was rushed to Mansa Ram Hospital where he was declared dead.

The bodies of the couple have been sent to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for post mortem. The couple had got married around two and a half years ago. The couple is survived by a young child.

B B Sahay, the father of the deceased – Satya Narayan – told police that his son was going through a bad phase as he was unemployed for long. Meanwhile, Madhu's brother alleged that her sister on Thursday evening told over the phone that her in-laws had forced her to consume poison, a police officer said.

“We are questioning neighbours and friends of the deceased. The investigation is on,” he added.
