2 steal over Rs 12 lakh from ATMs

Two persons, including a teenager, have been arrested for breaking an automated teller machine in Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi and stealing Rs 12.38 lakh from the cash chamber, said police on Monday.

Anish, 19, and Arun Khatri, 20, both residents of Najafgarh were arrested on Sunday, said Anil Kumar Ojha, deputy commissioner of police (south west).

“Anish was arrested on an input that he would be coming to meet his friend at Ghasipura in Najafgarh. We laid a trap near Ghasipura chowk and at around 4 pm, we saw Anish coming from Najafgarh,” Ojha said. Seeing the police team, Anish turned back, but was taken into custody.

“Initially, he tried to dodge the police by narrating the story of his poor background. However, he broke down later and disclosed that he and his four associates were involved in the case,” Ojha added.

His associate Arun Khatri was arrested and stolen cash and a car that was purchased with stolen cash have also been recovered. The accused told police that on the night of January 6, they made a plan to break the ATM kiosk of Axis Bank at Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar.
