Two men have been arrested for cheating unemployed youths on the pretext of providing them jobs in multinational companies in the national capital, police said on Thursday.

Lalit Kumar, 59 and Amarjeet Rana, 60, had been running the racket since 2010 and earned over Rs 10 lakh by charging Rs 40,000 to 50,000 from people, said Devesh Chandra Srivastva, additional commissioner of police (central).

“The action was taken over a complaint filed at Rajender Nagar police station. The accused had failed to provide the promised jobs to the complainants and also refused to return the amount paid to them,” Srivastva added.

The two were arrested on Wednesday following a tip-off that they would come to Karol Bagh metro station to strike a deal with another youth in a similar fashion.

During interrogation, Lalit and Amarjeet told police that they did not have any fixed source of income, but had the habit of leading a lavish life.

“They started alluring unemployed youths by assuring them jobs in multinational companies. The lakh of rupees  they made was used to maintain their luxurious lifestyle,” Srivastva said.
They had also been arrested earlier by the Special Cell over charges of cheating.

But they were released on bail after spending about two years in Tihar Jail, added Srivastava
