The judgment on the alleged involvement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram  in the 2G scam, is likely to be delivered by a Delhi court on Saturday.

The Special CBI Court of judge O P Saini will pronounce the ruling on the petition of former Union minister Subramanian Swamy.

Swamy has contended in his petition that the former Communications minister A Raja – the main accused in the 2G spectrum scam - committed irregularities in connivance with Chidambaram, in alloting the 122 licenses the Supreme Court ordered cancelled on Thursday. According to him, the decision on pegging spectrum prices based on 2001 rates was jointly taken by Raja and Chidambaram.

If it goes against Chidambaram, the order may have huge implications for the UPA government of which he is a key minister. In such a scenario, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may have a lot of explaining to do despite the Supreme Court, in a judgment on January 31, all but gave him a clean chit to him in the delay in giving sanction for prosecution of Raja.

An adverse verdict may have an impact in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections polling for which stars next week.

While delivering its judgement on Thursday in the 2G case, the Supreme Court bench of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly  had left it to the trial court to decide on Swamy's plea. It asked the lower court not to get influenced by its rulings.

The bench, while taking serious view of actions of Raja, however, did not find any fault on the part of the Prime Minister and  Chidambaram.
