Last Updated 03 February 2012, 20:13 IST

A young group of Delhi musicians will play at a concert on Saturday to raise donations for the homeless.

The Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses in collaboration with St Stephen's Hospital is organising the concert ‘Noise for Needy’ at Dilli Haat, Pitampura, at 6 pm. It is also part of a tribute performance to rock band Metallica.

“We need a huge support from civil society in terms of volunteers, material and positive attitude towards the poor. Engagement of youths for social action is important,” said Dr Amod Kumar, nodal officer of St Stephen’s Hospital trust.

At least 1,500 people are expected to attend the concert. Special seats are reserved for regular donors of NGOs. There are no tickets for the concert; it is open to all. There will be provisions for on-the-spot donation and registration of volunteers.

“We would like to request people to donate old clothes, toys or anything they want for the homeless,” said Dr Javed Khan, member of St Stephen's Hospital.

Hemzi, team leader of the band ‘Buzz’, which will perform at the concert, said, “Conducting concerts for a cause is not something new. Our aim is to reach out to the masses and raise awareness about issues faced by the homeless.”

Other guest bands and celebrity musicians supporting the sause are also likely to perform.
