Maid changes her version again
Last Updated 30 August 2009, 17:30 IST

In her statement to Pandeshwar police on Sunday, Ayesha, the injured domestic maid, has stated that she fell from the flat’s balcony when she was trying to catch a plastic bag that slipped from her hands. “There were nobody in the home. I was hungry. I was about to eat some fruits which were in my bag. But accidentally the bag slipped from my had and I tried to catch hold of it, and I fell down from the balcony,” she told the police.  She had told the CWC members on August 27 that she was trying to escape from the house. On the same evening, she had changed her version and told police that she fell from the balcony due to dizziness. Her statement has again changed on Sunday as recorded by the police. However, she has made it clear that she was not willing to work in the house of Abdul Salam, her employer, but she was not allowed to go.

She has even revealed that the house members used to lock the doors when they were going out. Ayesha said that the house members were following her when she used to go out to dispose garbage as they felt that she might escape.

According to her statement, she did not have formal schooling, and she worked as a domestic maid at a house in Baindoor for over four years when she was 8 years old.

Child Welfare Committee member Geo D’Silva said the girl might have changed her statements due to certain pressure.  “Taking a suo moto step, the CWC had recorded her statements on the next day itself, when she had admitted that she was trying to escape. Even on Sunday, I was present there when the police recorded her statements,” he said.
