New opinion poll shows SP as winner

The SPis likely to emerge as single largest party in Uttar Pradesh while Congress in alliance Rashtriya Lok Dal will make impressive gains and the combine may touch the figure of 99, says a latest opinion poll.

According to the survey conducted by STAR News – Nielsen survey, it will be a hung
Assembly in country’s  most populous state. The poll survey says that Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party will improve its tally from 97 in 2007 to 135 this time to emerge as single largest party.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will lose power this time and will be reduced to 101 seats compared to 206 seats it won to form the government.

The survey suggests that BJP will finish fourth in the state with 61 seats.

According to this poll opinion, the Congress party, whose election campaign in the state is being spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi,will be the major gainer in the most interesting electoral battle of the country. The survey projects the Congress winning on 79 seats, while the alliance partner is likely to net 20.

The region-wise break up suggested by the survey shows that the BSP will win 48 seats in Eastern UP or Poorvanchal, 39 seats in Western UP or Harit Pradesh, 8 seats in Bundelkhand and 6 seats in Central UP.

The Samajwadi Party is likely to emerge victorious on 71 seats in Eastern UP, 38 seats in Western UP, 5 seats in Bundelkhand and 21 seats in Central UP.

The survey is giving 35 seats to the Congress in Eastern UP, 13 seats in Western UP, 4 seats in Bundelkhand and 27 seats in Central UP. Party’s alliance partner - RLD is getting 20 seats in Western UP alone.

The BJP will manage to win 21 seats in Eastern UP, 33 seats in Western UP, 7 seats in Central UP, while the party will not be able open its account in Bundelkhand region of the state.
