A 40-year-old man was shot at by an unidentified person outside Mayur Vihar Phase-I Metro Station in east Delhi on Saturday evening, police said.

The victim, Shibu, a resident of Ghaziabad, was shot in his back outside gate number two of the metro station at around 5:40 pm.

According to Shibu’s sister Anita, he had left home to meet a person named Deepak. Police said Shibu suspected that Deepak had an affair with his wife since the past six months. Deepak may have shot at Shibu after an argument, police added.

“A man fired a shot and ran away immediately. The assailant only targeted Shibu, as no one else was hurt. According to the initial investigation, it appears to be a case of enmity,” said B S Gurjar, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

Shibu was rushed to nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital by the Central Industrial Security Force personnel.

“He was bleeding profusely and had lost consciousness when he was being taken to  hospital. However, his condition is said to be stable now,” Gurjar said.

An attempt to murder case has been registered against unidentified person at Yamuna Bank Police Station.

“The identity of the accused can only be ascertained through the victim’s statement. Shibu will be questioned after the doctors issue a medical certificate,” a police officer said.

The police are also examining the CCTV footage taken of the outer premises of the metro station in order to identity the suspect.
