Bangalore South MP Ananthkumar on Saturday demanded a special package for Bangalore City along the lines of other Metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata for infrastructure development.

He was addressing a gathering at NR Colony after laying the foundation stone for a super-speciality hospital that will come up by upgrading the existing BBMP Maternity Home.
The proposed super-speciality hospital will come up at a cost of Rs two crore atop the 50-year-old maternity home at NR Colony.

The Palike plans to open a dialysis centre from next week, while the construction of the new building will start next month. An MoU has been signed with the Rangadurai Memorial Hospital for providing quality medical services free of cost to the people living in the area.

In return, Palike would bear the medical expenses of the people under its Vajpayee Arogya Shree Yojane and other Central and State government-sponsored health schemes. On Saturday, Ananthkumar handed over the copy of the MoU to Latha Venkataraman, president, Rangadurai Hospital.

During the event, Ananthkumar felt that Bangalore deserved a Central government fund of Rs 5,000 crore like the funds granted to other Metropolitan cities. He also underlined the need for upgrading the existing railway infrastructure to start local train services like in Mumbai.

“We need multi-mode public transport facilities like bus services, Metro rail services and also special local train services. I request the Home and Transport Minister, R Ashoka, to work in this direction,” said the MP.

Speaking on the occasion,  R Ashoka said the State government is making an attempt to retain people’s faith in government hospitals through public-private-partnerships.
