Last Updated 04 May 2018, 05:02 IST

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake has struck near Vancouver Island off Canada's west coast, the US Geological Survey said, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The quake struck at a shallow depth of 12 kilometres with the epicentre located 204 kilometres south of the town of Port Hardy on the island, and about 350 kilometres west of the city of Vancouver, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in a preliminary bulletin said the quake, which occurred at 2005 GMT, was not of sufficient magnitude to generate a tsunami warning.
