Cardiologists have suggested consumption of the fibre-rich “sattu” and mustard oil can keep heart ailments at bay.

“Mix a tea spoon of sattu with a glass of water and have it daily. This will not only reduce your cholesterol level, but also lessen chances of any coronary heart disease, as sattu has high fibre contents,” suggests cardiologist S C Manchanda, who was in Patna to attend the annual conference of Cardiologist Society of India (CSI), Bihar chapter.

Manchanda, who retired as head of the Department of Cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences , New Delhi, suggested that sattu and mustard oil could significantly reduce the occurrence of coronary artery diseases that is emerging as the prime reason of death in India.

The eminent doctor, quoting an American journal, said mustard oil, if used as a cooking medium, could reduce heart attack by 70 per cent. “Besides, sattu, which has high fibre contents, could reduce the cholesterol level by 5 to 10 per cent, thereby reducing the occurrence of coronary artery disease by 15 to 30 per cent,” he said.

“Sattu generates pro-biotic effect and anti-oxidants which help in fighting virus,” Manchanda explained, while speaking on preventive cardiology.

For those suffering from hypertension and diabetes, the doctor suggested regular sessions of yoga. “My studies show that yoga was the best remedy for hypertension and diabetes, the two major risk factors for heart attack and stroke,” he said. “Savasan can reduce heart disease to a great extent.”
