IAS officer's wife files additional bail plea

To strengthen her plea for bail, Anuja Pandey, wife of an IAS officer on Monday, filed an additional bail application at the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court here.

Anuja Pandey was arrested and later released, on interim bail, for assaulting a woman police officer Anjumala Naik on duty. The counsel for Anuja Pandey, in the additional bail plea application, said the accused was provoked into slapping the woman police officer.

If the footage on camera is closely examined, it will be clear that Anuja was provoked to slap the police officer as she assaulted her son, the counsel added. The counsel appealed to the court to examine other CCTV footages to ascertain the police assaulting Anuja’s son.

Further, the counsel for Anuja argued for the bail on the grounds that the accused is a woman.
Objecting to the bail plea application, the public prosecutor argued that Anuja being the wife of an IAS officer could tamper with the witness if released on bail.  Moreover, inspector Anjumala Naik was still recovering at the Mallya Hospital.
