Two persons were arrested for stealing electronic goods worth Rs 15 lakh, police said on Tuesday.

Arun Jain, 38, and his brother-in-law Bharat Bhushan, 40, who hail from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested from Rohini in outer Delhi, police added.

“They used to telephone electronic goods shops pretending to be executives of an automobile showroom and then place orders,” said P Karunakaran, Additional Deputy Commissioner of police (outer).

“They would give the address of a nearby showroom. As delivery men went towards the given address, they used to intercept them on the way,” said Karunakaran.
They would take the items and send the delivery men to collect the amount from the showroom, added Karuna-karan.

They were arrested following complaints from various electronic shopkeepers in Rohini in November last year.

The arrested persons told police that they were running a small hardware shop. They suffered huge losses and had to borrow money.

“To pay off the debts, they conspired and hatched a plan to cheat electronics shopkeepers,” said  Karunakaran.

According to police, the two thieves used to call expensive electronic goods store and place orders for high-end items. The shopkeepers never doubted their background since the address they used to give was genuine.
