People who came to Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday had to return disappointed as they were denied entry by security officers.

According to information, the entry was barred for the common man as Delhi government officials feared that protesting Delhi Jal Board (DJB) workers would enter the Secretariat and a create commotion. More than 200 workers of DJB were stopped by police at Dilli Gate in central Delhi, as they pprepared to move towards Delhi Secretariat.

There was heavy police deployment at the gates and people were stopped from entering the premises. Some people who managed to get past the main gates could not enter the building as entry passes were not being made at the counter. While security officials maintained that entry was denied owing to a ‘defence officers meeting’, the actual reason was revealed by a senior Delhi police official.

“We feared that DJB workers would get inside the Secretariat and indulge in slogan shouting and create commotion. As a precautionary measure entry passes were not issued,” said the official.
