At least 26 people from a marriage party were killed Tuesday evening when an overloaded mini-bus collided head-on with a speeding truck in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district, 120 km from here, police said Wednesday.

The driver of the mini-bus also died and more than a dozen others were injured. Police have identified 23 bodies.

The seriously injured have been taken to Agra's S.N. Medical College Hospital.
Police in Mainpuri said the mini-bus was heading towards Etah district's Nagla Bihari, where the family were to participate in the engagement ceremony of Balbir Singh Yadav's daughter.

The mini-bus belonged to a primary school. Chief development officer Satish Kumar and sub divisional magistrate Jai Shankar Dubey have reached the accident site to supervise rescue operations.
