Bharatanatyam
Lakshmi Gopalaswamy will present a bharata­natyam recital on February 10, 5.45 pm at Bangalore Gayana Samaja, K R Road, Basavanagudi. The programme is being organised by Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandir.

‘Lasya Kavya’
The next edition of the discussion series, ‘Dance DISCourse’ will be held on February 29, 6.30 pm. It will have bharata­natyam exponent Alarmel Valli, on screen and on stage. There will also be a screening of a full-length film titled, ‘Lasya Kavya - The world of Alarmel Valli' on the life and art of the dancer, directed by Sankalp Meshram. After the screening of the film, the dance icon will be on stage to interact with Ashish Khokar.

‘Soul Cages’
Savitha Sastry will present her latest production, ‘Soul Cages’, on February 11, 7 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Savitha is a leading exponent of bharatanatyam while the ‘Soul Cages’ is an artistic experience that captures the cycles of life and death as a journey, rather than an end in itself.
 ‘Gadha-Yuddha’

The ICCR, in collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, will be presenting a Yakshagana Gadha-Yuddha by Karnataka Sanskruthika Kala Pratishthana under the ‘Horizon Series’ on February 11, 6.30 pm at the Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road

‘Sangeethotsava’
Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan, Institute of Fine Arts, Mathikere Layout, is celebrating Sri Thyagaraja and Sri Purandara Dasa Aradhana Mahotsava and Sangeethotsava on February 11, 6 pm at Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan premises. On the occasion, there will be a vocal music recital by the students of Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan. There will also be a vocal ensemble of Pancha Rathna Keerthanas and a concert by Sangeetha Vidushi Jalaja Prasad. Sangeetha Kala Nidhi R K Srikanthan will be felicitated for his services to Carnatic music.
 
‘Aadi Anant’
Citi India, jointly with The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), is organising an innovative festival of Indian music called ‘Citi-NCPA Aadi Anant: From Here to Eternity’ on February 10 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. It will feature two back-to-back performances by celebrated Indian musicians on the same day. Kaushiki Chakrabarty Desikan’s (vocal solo) performance will be followed by a Talavadya Kacheri. Anindo Chatterji will be on tabla, Kaaraikkudi Mani will be on mridangam, V Suresh will be on ghatam and N Amrith on kanjira.

Vocal delight
Music Circle,Chandra Layout is organising a Carnatic vocal concert by Srimushnam Raghavendra on February 12, 6.15 pm  at No. 12, Basaveshwara HBCS, 7th Cross, 2nd Main, Chandra Layout. He will be accompanied by B Vittala Rangan on violin and R S R Srikanth on mridangam.

Ready to rock
‘Sunburn Arena 2012’ is presenting ‘Dash Berlin India Tour’ in the City. Dash Berlin, one of the hottest DJs and producers with chart-topping hits like ‘Better Half of Me’, ‘Till the Sky Falls Down’, ‘Waiting’ and ‘Man on the Run’, will headline ‘Sunburn Arena 2012’. He will perform at E Zone on February 12.

‘Galeej Gurus’
Catch rockers Galeej Gurus perform live at Mount Carmel College on February 11, 7 pm. The band will be headlining the annual cultural fest ‘Cul-ah 2012’.

Carnatic feast
A ‘Carnatic Music Feast’ is being organised by Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandir. On February 9, 5.45 pm, Mysore M Nagaraj and M Manjunath will perform a violin duet.

On February 11, 5.45 pm, Sanjay Subrahmanian and Nagai Muralidharan will present a violin recital. On February 12, Ranjani and Gayathri will perform a vocal duet. The venue for all the events is Bangalore Gayana Samaja, K R Road, Basavanagudi.

First anniversary
The Majolly Music Trust will be celebrating its first anniversary with a gala concert on February 11, 7 pm at Alliance Francaise. It will feature their faculty with a variety of performances on piano, classical violin, classical guitar.

It will also have classical singing and music theatre, including one by ‘Madrigals, Etc’. Performers include Tanisha Herbert, Usha Aron, J W Johnson, Mohan Krishnan, Ravi S, Grace Biswas and Neecia Majolly.

Exhibition
A solo show of artist Sudip Roy will be held at Alila Hotel and Residencies, HAL-Vartur Road.
The exhibition will be held till February 11.

Different strokes
Crimson is hosting an exhibition by artist S G Vasudev till February 29. This exhibition will showcase his tapestries, paintings and drawings.

Solo show
Galleryske is holding a solo show by Austrian ar­tist Eva Schlegel till March 17.

Fine images
Rachna Shukla is holding an exhibition of fine art images, ‘Reminiscing from the Folds of Memory’, at Chitrakala Parishat from February 16 to 19.

‘Convergence’
‘Convergence’, an exhibition of paintings, will be held at Chitrakala Parishat from Fe­b­ruary 9 to 14, 10.30 am to 7 pm.

‘Varna Mythri’
The exhibition ‘Varna Mythri - Rumale Chennabasaviah Centenary Retrospective 2011’ will be on view till February 19 at NGMA, Palace Road.


DRAMA

Play on
Rage, Mumbai is performing three plays from its recently concluded festival in Mumbai, ‘Writers' Bloc’, at the Ranga Shankara this month. The plays will be performed from February 17 to 19.

‘Writers’ Bloc’ is the only new playwrighting festival in the country and all plays that premiere at the festival are a result of a one-year training programme held in conjunction with the Royal Court Theatre, UK.

‘Ms Meena’
Perch will present ‘Ms Meena’, directed by Rajiv Krishnan, in association with Rafiki at Ranga Shan­kara on February 9 and 10, 7.30 pm and February 11 to 12, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm.

Mexican films
The Mexican Film Festival concludes at Bangalore Film Society with ‘More Than Anything in the World’, ‘The Desert Inside’ and ‘Backyard’, which will be screened from February 9 to 11. ‘Gudiya Sambhrama’

Lecture Series
Under the aegis of ‘Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities’, the lecture series ‘Talk of the Town’ will be held on February 9, 6.30 pm. The lecture series is organised around the themes of ‘See’, 'Act' and 'Build' respectively, to critically address various issues related to urban transformation in India in applied and innovative ways.

The panellists are Solomon Benjamin, Manipal School of Architecture and Planning, Bangalore and Prof Jörg Stollman, Tec­hnical University Berlin and Urbaninform, Zürich. Creative writing
‘Still Waters’ will hold a creative writing workshop on February 25 and 26 at Hotel Ramada. The two-day weekend workshop will comprise an introductory ses­sion on creative writing that will cover style, narrati­ves, craft and different forms of creative writing by author Vijay Nair (www.vij­aynair.net). The second day will have interactions with four other published writers to get an understanding of different forms of creative writing. Last date for registration is February 14.

‘Bombat Bazaar’

Literary festival
Toto Funds the Arts India and the National Gallery of Modern Art have collaborated to organise a ‘Literary Festival’ at NGMA on February 10, 11 and 12.

Spring edition
The spring edition of the ‘Fireflies Festival of Music’ will be held on February 19, from 12 noon to 10 pm, at Fireflies Inter-cultural Centre, off Kanakapura Road.
