He, along with his cabinet colleagues and senior officers, will be leaving for Beijing by Singapore Airlines at 11.05 pm on Tuesday. According to sources he is leading the delegation of 21 members. The delegation includes ministers - Murugesh Nirani, Katta Subramanya Naidu, Shobha Karandlaje, Karunakara Reddy and a host of officers including Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao and senior officers of departments of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and Industries.

It is said that family members of Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and Industries minister Murugesh Nirani’s wife are also accompanying the delegation. However, enquiries at the Chief Minister’s office revealed that the list of family members has not yet been finalised.
As per the tentative tour programme of the China trip, the delegation will hold meeting with investors in Beijing on September 3 and in Shanghai on September 7.

On his arrival in Beijing on September 2, the CM will hold a meeting with Indian ambassador. The delegation will go sight seeing in Beijing and Shanghai for two days - September 4 and 6.

Condemned

The principal Opposition - the Congress- has condemned the CM’s China visit. Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Ugrappa said there was no need for the CM to go on a visit to China when the state is facing severe drought.

However, the CM has defended his decision to take the delegation. He said in a letter dated March 12, 2009, that the then Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee, had appealed to him to take a delegation to China as a measure to enhance good relationship between India and China.

The CM said he was taking the delegation in the best interest of the state. He would hold meetings with investors. He also added that he would send his cabinet colleagues to different countries to woo investors in the months of October and November.
