Ek Main aur Ekk Tu

Ek Main aur Ekk Tu

A perfectly average romance

Hindi (U/A)Cast: Kareena Kapoor,Imran KhanDirector: Shakun Batra

He is rich, well-groomed and irons even his underwear. “Baby, chew your food 32 times” — Imran also gets pearls of table wisdom from his fashionista mom (Ratna Pathak Shah in excellent airhead form — “this nail polish or that?”)

Free spirit Kareena cares a damn for etiquette because mess runs in the family. Well, along with the chaos, she has also inherited the happiness of her jaunty folks.

The two meet in Vegas and behave (or rather misbehave) on expected lines. The initial “eeks” soon give way to smiles and by interval both become friends so close that they start rating each other’s bum.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a simple rom-com that makes for an easy watch. But then, it’s “perfectly average” too, just like Kareena compliments her stiff hero.

While she revisits her Jab We Met days (less bubbly here, but with a wiser mouth), Imran happily plays the remote-controlled “baby” of pretentious parents (Papa Boman Irani doesn’t have much to do other than tying the tie for his underperforming son).

The movie has some lovely moments and a different format and climax. Sadly, except Kareena, nothing rises above the average mark.
